harley2006 (10k image)Harley-Davidson are already showing the 2006 range of H-D motorcycles on their corporate website.

Highlights include a `Night Rod' edition of the V-Rod, featuring straight-shot mufflers and low-rise bars, plus a new seat and Brembo brakes.

The Dyna Glide series gets a total redesign, with a new frame, 49mm forks, fuel injection across the range and a new 6 speed gearbox, plus lighter clutch.

Meanwhile, the entry level Sportster has had a few tweaks, including an improved transmission, new side-stand and a rubber mounted engine to smooth out some of the vibes from its relatively old tech engine.

Triumph Announces 2005 Financial Year Results

Triumph Announces 2005 Financial Year Results

Another Triumphant Year!

Triumph Motorcycles today announced strong sales and continued positive growth for the 2005 financial year (July 04 to June 05).

The statistics speak for themselves, with global sales up 29% on 2004. UK sales have risen 10% in a static market, North America sales increased by 40%, both France and Switzerland saw rises of 43%, Japan rose 34%, Italy 25% and Germany is up 18%.

Triumph has grown by 25% per year for the last two years, proving the brand turnaround initiated after the factory fire in 2002 is on track.

Tue Mantoni, Commercial Director at Triumph comments: "A significant contribution to our growth in sales stems from the successful launch of new products and the work we have done with our dealers. These are the most important areas to the consumer and it’s through these two crucial touch-points that we communicate the brand and make the change in our business visible".

With the launch of several new models over the last year, including the Speed Triple and Sprint ST, the model range is significantly more focused and comprises distinctively designed machines with lots of character.

A concrete change is that all new bikes going forward will have either the parallel twin or the iconic triple engine, something that's unique for Triumph in the motorcycle market. Mantoni comments: “Triumph is all about individuality and riding something that not everyone else has. We have worked hard to define Triumph’s identity and the success of our latest models is evidence that the consumers like what we have done".

In several markets, the demand has outstripped the supply of the new models and there are long waiting lists if you want to get your hands on models like the Speed Triple and the Sprint ST. Mantoni comments: “The fact that you have to wait for your bike makes the ownership experience more rewarding for the people who actually got their hands on one of the first bikes".

Triumph has also worked hard to create a unique retail experience that reflects the Triumph brand, including the launch of a new corporate store design. This bespoke design emphasises the lifestyle aspect of motorcycling by integrating the display of clothing, accessories, merchandise and the motorcycles themselves. The store design is currently being rolled out to dealers across the globe.

Mantoni clarifies: "For the majority of our customers, the dealership is their primary contact with the Triumph brand. The signals that we send through our dealers and the service that the customer receives define the brand in many ways".

“Our growth demonstrates to dealers and customers that we can run a successful and profitable business. This builds confidence in the future for the people who dedicate their lives to Triumph either through their business our through their own lifestyle."

“The focus on launching distinctive new products and enhancing the retail experience will therefore remain core to our strategy going forward.”

Carmichael Doubles Hannah Win Record

Carmichael Doubles Hannah Win Record

gtblog2 (43k image)

The 25-year-old American Motorcyclists Association (AMA) Motocross Champion won his fifth straight AMA 250 Motocross Championship race Sunday at Red Bud Track ‘N Trail to remain unbeaten this year. The victory was the 54th of his career in the series and doubles the 27 wins earned by Motorcycle Hall of Famer Bob Hannah, who stands second on the all-time wins list.

“I wasn’t even aware of doubling Hannah’s win record,” Carmichael said. “It’s an awesome feeling to be honest. The wins just keep coming. I can’t say enough about my team and the people around me who’ve helped me get to this point.”
Carmichael’s victory also marked the first Red Bud 250 National win for Suzuki in 27 years. Kevin Windham finished second on a Honda. It was his best result of the year. Red Bud fans went nuts when Windham got by Stewart in the second moto.
“It gave me chills to here the fans cheering me on,” Windham said. “I’ve always liked racing here and the fans are a big part of that.”

Kawasaki’s James Stewart was third. He had a run in with Windham in the second moto that resulted in Windham going down. When Windham chased him down it appeared to many that Stewart allowed Windham past in a laudable show of sportsmanship.
Chad Reed had a bad day. The chain came off his bike in the first moto and he finished fourth in the second for 10th overall, his worst result of the year. It also allowed Windham to move within two points of Reed in the standings.
Grant Langston, of South Africa, won the 125 class with a 1-2. It was Langston’s third win of the year and moved him from fifth to third in the standings. Langston is now tied for 12th on the all-time AMA 125 Motocross wins list.

Ryan Mills and Andrew Short took second and third overall respectively. It marked the first career podium finish for both riders and for Mills his second moto win was also a first.

Bimota DB5 Launched

Bimota DB5 Launched

The new Bimota DB5 was launched last week in Spain.

The DB5 features a 992cc Ducati motor, wrapped in a besopke chassis, with distinctive `bat-wing' styled mirrors. The old school trellis frame and swingarm are also features that set it apart from the crowd.

But it looks likely that the DB5 will cost about £15,000 in the UK - and there's no word from the factory on a dealer network, spares back-up, warranty details etc either.

Given the limited appeal of a 90bhp motorcycle, produced by a factory who may well go into receivership again in the near future, how many bikers will want to shell out big money for the DB5?

As beautiful as it is, the DB5 looks set to be a collectors item, rather like the V-Due two stroke, or the SB8
